We walked into class for the new week only to see MP waiting to start class as early as 8.00 in the morning. As though the extra hour of school in the evening wasn’t enough, he wanted an extra hour in the morning to complete the syllabus early.

CVM’s classes always seem to interrupted in some way or the other. On Tuesday, they called a whole bunch of students to submit the application for the bus pass. Incredibly, Raghav, who lives like 300 metres away from the school, applied for one too!

Wednesday saw some excitement in class during the break when Sarav brought news about two chameleons that were having sex on the lawn. Unfortunately, by the time everyone got there, the couple decided to have their own break.

We watched ‘Life is Beautiful’ on Thursday, a movie about how a Jewish Italian and his son live in a Nazi concentration camp. The movie was really good, one that made a few fellow classmates cry. The main highlight of the day however, was the completion of ‘p-Block Elements’. After surviving around nine days of drudgery, it was finally time to move onto a new chapter, not that the new one is any better, but still…

MP gave us some good news when he told us that all future cycle tests and terminal exams would be conducted by the school, which meant that the exams to come would be way easier.

On Friday, CUM was writing some program on the board which used a variable called ‘count’. While she was concentrating deeply on the sheet of paper she was writing from, Hari went up and erased the ‘o’ from ‘count’. The class burst out in laughter, wishing that he had done the same to a function that was named ‘showcount’ ;).

The week started with one of the easiest Chemistry test papers we’d ever written. We probably found it easy cause it was set by the school, and not FIITJEE (for once!). CVM was then telling us about how he was questioned by the authorities at FIITJEE about how effective his teaching was. Apparently, the feedback form showed that he wasn’t doing as good a job as they’d have liked him to. So he decided it was time everyone got more serious and decided not to give us free periods anymore.

Tuesday was MP’s birthday. Girish, on behalf of the class got him a huge birthday card which we all signed. We also began to sing a birthday song for him when he entered class, after which Parul handed the card to the a embarrassed-looking Prasad sir. As you would expect with MP, nothing much else happened after that.

Thursday witnessed violence between the two FIITJEE sections. The football match between F1 & F2 got bloody as neither team was willing to give an inch away to the other. It got really violent when F2 ignored calls for a foul on Dutta and then went on to score with all of us caught unaware. Everyone began to argue whether that goal was legal or not, and eventually it was taken off the score sheet. The match continued with venom as Dutta brought to ground a boy who just walked into the ground and started kicking the ball around, which almost made Dutta have the ball tackled away by Mohit. The closely fought match finished 3-3.

A sudden evening test after nearly a week caught us all by surprise on Friday. Nearly everyone decided to bunk the test by sneaking out through the back door before the teacher arrived. As expected, hardly anyone did, and most of those who did eventually came back to write the test.

All of CVM’s resolutions to cut down on free periods came crashing down when he gave us one before lunch on Saturday, followed by the PT we got during another one of his classes at 2.30. He said that it was going to be the last PT he was going to give, but I’m not too sure ;).

With many of the students away at the excursion, the class saw very little attendance on the first two days. Quite a few who didn’t go for the excursion too decided not to come to school. To make sure there was at least some decent strength in the class, both classes again had to be combined. So you can imagine not much would’ve happened in such a class.

Normality resumed from Wednesday when the students returned from their three-day trip. And they brought back a lot of stories with them! Unsurprisingly, most of the good ones involved Sailesh. For instance, he got stuck at the top of a curving water slide at the pool! And in the train, the guys dropped a mobile phone into his pants and made a call. He was asleep at that time, and his vibrating underwear didn’t seem to wake him up!

By the time you knew it, the cycle test was up and running. First up was Physics, followed by Computer Science. So I guess it was time again to do what you once a month – dust open your NCERT books!

Amidst all this, there was confusion about an “optionally compulsory” PT exam. It was earlier believed that it would make up for any subject that we did poorly in, but it was then confirmed that it would be counted only if you failed in any of the other subjects. This being highly unlikely, no one decided to opt for it.

Hari gained stardom last week by ‘asking out’ Maithreye. Actually, after school, Sarav dared him to ask out the first mutually known girl they saw. Maithreye happened to be there, so Hari walked up and was “Out aah? Out aah?” after which he went “See? I asked her out!”. Well, news soon spread that he asked her out and it was the talking point right through Saturday.

Well, more cycle tests coming up this week. All the best everyone!

So we finally had school after our five-day party. And CVM was furious that many of us didn’t complete the packages and other things that he wanted us to (more so since he had work all those days!).

As it generally is on Tuesdays, a majority of the class deliberately came to class late in order to avoid attending CUM’s ‘special’ class. I may not understand what goes on in class when we have Computer Science, but it certainly isn’t special! Anyway, the absence of so many people during class makes it a little less intense.

Sailesh, Shivam and I managed to get away from all this on Wednesday and Thursday thanks to the NPS culturals. We were participating in the FIFA World Cup quiz and actually won it, which added to the incentive of missing class ;).

What we couldn’t miss though, was the mid phase, the sixth one, which happened on Saturday. CVM called it an NCERT level test, and it wasn’t all that difficult actually, but it was seriously long!

After the test, those who were going for the excursion were allowed to leave. They weren’t the only ones though – even those who weren’t going for the excurion sneaked off with them! I wonder if that was the reason for CVM saying “I’m in a bad mood!” when he returned after lunch. But it didn’t really matter though, cause his mood soon swung the right way and he began playing Pictionary with us.

Looks like we’ll start the next week off with a couple of combined classes (F1 & F2). Hopefully we can make the most of it!
