Okay, so the week turned out better than I thought it would. PSOM was the only one who actually checked our homework and didn’t bother going through it in too much detail either. The new sheets kept coming though.

Oh yeah, did you hear about Raghav and his MLA connection? Lol I don’t know how this started, but it sure is fun! Well, someone (I’m suspecting a denying Garimella) suggested that Raghav’s dad could be an MLA. And although Raghav is dead against it, we’re trying to find reasons to support it (mainly to irritate him actually). One of them is the fact that he hides his address and phone number from everyone as far as possible. Maybe he’s afraid that we’ll give it off to some guy from an opposition party who could cause trouble! Another one is about how calm he is with his I-don’t-care-about-studies attitude in spite of joining FIITJEE. We came up with a theory that maybe he’s probablyalready assured of an IIT seat because of his dad’s influence. Research is still going on in this field and hopefully we’ll discover a few more instances that can be used in support to irritate him ;).

We managed to escape giving the dreaded model lecture on ‘Waves & Sounds’ on Wednesday. It was some Bengali festival and you aren’t supposed to study on that day. Well since PSOM is Bengali, we successfully convinced him to not teach that day. He made Nataraj host a show where he called people over to the ‘stage’ and show us their talents. The most notable performance was probably Prithvi’s reaction to a situation where he slips on a banana in front of a bunch of girls who start laughing at him – a really good series of dance steps which gets him back on his feet. Let’s not forget the ballet that Sailesh and Hari did though!

On Friday, we had Math – for three and a half straight hours! No break in the middle! MP just went on and on with Probability. There were quite a few people fortunate enough to miss it. And MJ was back after her week-long sickness which kept her away from school. Unfortunately, the Computer Science teacher took away her period in order to fit a lab session to compensate for the one we’re gonna miss on Republic Day (Tuesday).

The Mid Phase Test scheduled for 12.30 on Saturday was postponed to 1.30 – thanks to Mr. Mahadevan. If you’re wondering who he is, he’s… uh, well I don’t exactly know what his title is, but he’s awesome. He amazed us all with his unbelievable memory – one that could remember the date of births and phone numbers of every single student in eleventh grade! He inspired us to think sharper to make us achieve more in our lives (I think). And the mid phase? Yeah, it was okay I guess. Math was pretty good, Chemistry was just plain difficult and Physics… well, the Physics paper was totally messed up. The syllabus was Waves & Sound, but every single question in the paper was from Heat & Thermodynamics, so we’re expecting that paper be unevaluated.

And yeah, the Republic Day holiday we’re getting on Tuesday isn’t the only exciting thing happening this week – watch out for Raghav’s model lecture on Statistics tomorrow!

A short week. Thankfully. But the work load wasn’t any less. Apparently, Amudha was really disappointed by the performance of our class in the second term exams and was really serious about “FIITJEE students being the cream of Chettinad Vidyashram” and expected a minimum of 60% in from us in each subject. Well the clearly hurt FIITJEE faculty decided to work towards change straight away. They’ve begun to give us long lists of problems in each of the three subjects. We’re supposed to submit one or two chapters at the end of each week. And that’s not everything – our school timings have been extended by one and a half hours. Can you believe that? All the way until 5.00 PM! And it’ll continue until the end of our course, which is one and a half years away. Man, at the moment we’re struggling to get through a three-day week. I don’t want to think about how our next week is gonna turn out. Let’s just hope that the faculty have calmed down a bit now.

CVM seemed pretty emotional on Wednesday. He was telling us the story of his life and how unfortunate he was at times and that there was a lot that we could learn from it. He said he’d shown very little care for his father who’d done a lot for him and understood it only when he had to take the responsibility of the family after his father passed away. Well, what CVM said didn’t stir Hari Prasad one bit. Lol he had a couple of words to say when CVM was telling us how many people weren’t as lucky as we are and didn’t have clothes to wear. Hari’s words of wisdom? “Mallika Sherawat”. And those were enough to get CVM to be himself. His hands were instantly “playing” with the little kid ;).

Ok everybody, let’s go into this week with our fingers crossed. Good luck!

Back to school. Our “holidays” concluded with the start of the week and it was time to get back to our routine. Our first working day in 2010 started off with us getting our exam results! And as usual, it left the faculty with rather glum looks on their faces. And Abhishek Dutta topped the class once again. Congratualtions to him, more so that he also scored the highest in all eleventh (the only fact that MP actually smiled about all week).

The week also marked the departure of Krishna from our class, who left XI-F1 to join the mainstream school, and he’s timed it bloody well too. The faculty seems to be getting really serious about our performances in exams at the moment, a time when you really wished you weren’t a part of FIITJEE.

PSOM got some weird idea to divide us into groups to make us study together to get more work done. He apparently wanted us to solve the package and textbook and all that and clarify our doubts with our group members. Well, we had only one session so far with our group, and we mostly spent our time talking ;).

And Sunday was just another day, a holiday that FIITJEE stole from us. We had to go for the Potential Discovery Test (PDT), another fancy addition to FIITJEE’s already overflowing list of exams. Well, it was horrible! The paper was so damn tough. I’m sure Nitin Jain would’ve struggled with it as well. Every would have… except Karan Sharma. Well, after the exam, he told me that he’d get around 175. And on Monday morning that figure came down to 100 and by lunch it was “something less than 80”. Dude, even zero is less than 80, so you might just be right.

The timetable for the coming week certainly looks promising – we’ve got three holidays! Yup, Thursday, Friday and Saturday are holidays for Pongal. The extra classes from 3.30 – 5.00 looks kinda scary, but I guess we’ll take if they’re giving us those holidays. And yeah, Happy Pongal everyone!

What’s With This Week’s Timetable? January 6, 2010

Well this week’s timetable took forever to come up on FIITJEE’s Chennai microsite (which hardly loads properly). And if that wasn’t bad enough, then the contents certainly were!

The week starts of pretty well, but the week suddenly gets all tedious with continuous periods of the same subject. Tuesday had nothing but Chemistry, and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday have only Physics in store for us. Not that Physics isn’t interesting these days, but still…

But there’s some good news thrown into it as well. The timetable for Saturday gives details only until 12:40, which probably means that we’re working only for the first half. Pretty good chances of that, since they’d expect us to prepare for Sunday’s Potential Discovery Test (another holiday stolen…sigh!).

And yeah, one thing that should’ve been on Monday’s timetable was ‘Krishna’s last period at XI-F1’. Well, unfortunately Krishna couldn’t quite keep up with FIITJEE’s torture and decided (in Arjun’s words) what’s best for him – just leave. The lucky class he’s in now is XI-C. He’s still part of FIITJEE though, but only for the Sunday classes. Man we sure are gonna miss all the fun stored in him (more so would Arvind and Pooja I guess). All the best, mate!

One thing on the timetable however is PT :). The XI-F1 tradition of picking teams during the Computer Science period every Wednesday remained unbroken. Can’t wait for our first football match in two weeks! Shivam, Utkarsh, Karthik, Akshay, Arjun and others versus Sarav, Sailesh, Dutta, Karan, Hari and others. Should be great with these teams. See ya on the field then!
