Well the start of the week saw the end of our exams. A pretty happy end too, since English wasn’t all that killing. But it wasn’t really time to celebrate yet – FIITJEE was still around and holding school even after the exams, as was the FTRE, which was a threat to our holidays.

The staff seemed pretty pissed off the whole week. All the teachers got really strict about the fact that there was nonsense scribbled on all our benches, half of which was done by other people – like the ones who write exams in our class and the CRP batch of FIITJEE. MP got on Utkarsh’s tail first – “Arre kya baba! You only writing ‘Man U Rox’ on the benches and all na?” But I think what got him really upset was when he saw on our bench ‘Eashwar & Aishwarya’ (whoever they are) surrounded by the F-word written a million times all around it! PSOM had the same story to tell us and he even made the places we sit in during Physics class permanent for all classes. And he actually wrote down on a piece of paper about who was sitting where so he’d know who to screw if he found bull on our benches.

That wasn’t the only thing that showed their bad mood. You could clearly sense it when MP said “Wait until the school reopens again in January. You are going see different faculty.” He didn’t mean ‘different faculty’ literally – he meant that the same faculty are going to become super-strict and all that! Shit! And yeah, what about all the homework we have! According the them, our holidays are supposed to be spent doing archive problems of all chapters in Math, some chapters in Physics along with the NCERT exercises in the three latest chapters and redoing the Chemistry term paper. Some holidays, I tell you.

Arjun Sundaresh, as quoted on Facebook:

fiitjee sure knows how to give a vacation…. the first half of it would be spent studying 4 the xam we hav on sunday and the remaining half would be spent by trying to finish the load of work they hav given us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(worst part is tht they say enjoy your vacation after giving so much work )

LOL. I couldn’t agree more!

Oh yeah, I didn’t mention the Siva Samhith incident, did I? Well, Siva got a new phone, and he was handling it really carefully. He was probably scared that it’d get confiscated if someone saw him using it or something. So every call he made was from the restroom. One such call that some of us guys managed to hear was during our visit to the restroom. Siva was talking to his mom for like 10 whole minutes after which he was like “Ma, I’m Siva speaking”. Man, Sarav couldn’t control his laughter while peeing and it soon got infectious and spread to Pradeep. And as usual, he said something really dumb which Siva definitely didn’t want his mom to hear. Revenge? Yeah, Siva elbowed him hard on his balls! So much so that you could actually hear a sound!

And the week ended pretty well with our ‘Mock Awards’, which brought Ankit Shai into the limelight (check out the previous post for more about it). Have a good vacation, everybody! Happy New Year :).

Phew! That’s a lot of awards! And I’m sure the stats are enough to guess the ones who hogged the limelight. Ankit stole the show by bagging 4 awards. Raghav was the most among the contenders with 9 nominations while Dutta, with 5 nominations was the most nominated one to not win an award. And Ankit made it his day by cracking a couple of jokes (which in my opinion were pretty vulgar considering that PSOM was standing right next to him) and then singing a song. And wow, the cheer he got for his song… absolutely amazing!

Congratulations to all winners! And a big thank you to Varuna and Krishna for hosting the awards ceremony and Aishwarya Pai along with those who helped her for working to get the categories and nominees listed and decided so well.

Another week drowned in exams! One positive about it though was that we had a quite a few days off in between the exams. Not that we could enjoy it too much or anything, but still…

The Math exam on Monday was pretty good actually, even though it kinda seemed like it wasn’t really a typical NCERT-style paper. But you can always expect that with FIITJEE setting the question paper. And in my opinion, some questions had way too many calculations, which was seriously pissing off! Wednesday’s Computer Science exam went well too. I guess all those days with Uma saying “I said no free period, ma. Take your classworks!” reaped some benefit since nearly all the programs and ‘Record the Output’ questions were very similar to ones we’d already done in class.

The next two days, which were “holidays”, were terrible! Thriving on Chemistry for such a long time can be dangerous, as we found out, unless you’re a Shivam or a Dutta. And that struggle wasn’t worth too much, since the paper we got wasn’t all that easy, and that was evident from Garimella’s sitting style – he was oriented 180° away from his paper, eager to gain knowledge from Girish’s paper. At least the paper was a lot better than the one we got in the first term!

Oh yeah, there’s more about Gari. A kick he took yesterday during our football match hit some little kid on the back of her head. She turned towards him and yelled “Ey stupid! You don’t have any sense at all ah?” Lol.

And we finally have a holiday that can actually be spent like one. Tomorrow’s our English exam, so there’s not too much to be afraid of. By the way, according to the FIITJEE website, there was supposed to be a PTM for our batch today. I think those holidays we had in the week helped us escape from hearing about it. I just hope it isn’t postponed to next week. And talking about next week, the exams are almost over :). Yeah I know we’ve still got class, but at least one headache’s better than two.

With the second term exams starting on Wednesday, there was seriousness all around – which meant that the week wasn’t as exciting as it usually is. And Tuesday, being a holiday, gave us some much needed time to study for a Physics exam that the class would rather not want to talk about. There were hardly any theoretical questions and nearly the entire paper was based on derivations. What’s worse, we had to spend so much time studying eleven chapters and we ended up writing a paper which had questions from not more than four or five chapters!

Thursday saw MP in one of his better moods. He actually let us play football for one period even though it was supposed to be FIITJEE all day. Unfortunately, we were spending some of our valuable football time playing a different game – that of who can throw a stone (or Garimella’s shoe) most accurately on the ball stuck high up on the trees to bring it down! CVM later taught us how to name bicyclo compounds. That’s when Pradeep came up with his name for a love triangle evolution involving Pooja, Krishna, Hari, Raghav and himself called bicyclo-(3, 2, 0)-pentangle! And if you’re interested in knowing how badly he got insulted for that piece of “typical Pradeep lameness”, just look for a recent post by Pooja on my Facebook wall that’s overflowing with comments on him!

The little kiddies who had an exam on Friday occupied our classroom for the first half of the day. So we ended up at the Math Lab on the second floor. And that too only half of it. The other half was occupied by XI-F2, and you could actually hear their teachers when our class was going on! Thankfully, Physics was pretty interesting, otherwise I would’ve been more keen in listening to what was going on in the other class.

And Saturday was a holiday for us to prepare for the Math exam on Monday 🙂 Hopefully, Math’ll go better than the other subjects. All the best, everyone!

More Than Just Biogas December 10, 2009

Well the all-famous biogas boy J Vishnu finally attended Math class this Monday! He said he couldn’t all these days because of some Ahmedabad trip he had to make. And to be honest, that’s probably the most believable thing I’ve ever heard him say. For those unaware, here are some “Vishnu Originals” that you would rather not want to believe.

After gaining recognition from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-M), because of his biogas project in which he devised a way in which biogas could be used as automobile fuel, he said that the Indian government approached him with some deal worth 36 crore rupees! That’s Rs.360,000,000! Looking at rural India and even certain areas of urban India, it seems as though that the Indian government hardly has any money – let alone enough spend it on this guy!

Apparently, the popularity he gained at IIT-M has taken him to new heights. Literally! It seems that the NASA has actually named a new planet after him! Can you imagine that? A planet called J Vishnu? I can imagine the newspaper headlines a few years later – “Astronaut thrilled by experience on top of J Vishnu late last night” ;). Lol, we were speculating that he didn’t come for so many Math classes in the last few weeks because he had to visit his planet to make astronomical observations. And while he was at it, he probably discovered a new comet… and named it J Vishnu. Similar to Halley’s comet that’s seen once in 75 years, we reckoned J Vishnu can been seen once every Math class (lol, this one courtesy Shivam)!

And then came the story about the pen he recently invented at IIT-M. The pen’s supposed to have a lens at the tip of it that can scan a question paper containing multiple choice questions. After scanning the question and the options, the pen solves the question and displays the answer (that is A, B, C or D). The pen however, “can solve only basic problems such as IIT-JEE level problems” :).

Maybe you should try talking to him sometime (in case you haven’t already) – I’m sure he’ll tell you a lot of other little things than you might enjoy listening to – such as his 25 lakh fireworks budget or his 97% in the board exam (that’s around 10% more than what he actually got). Or maybe he’ll tell you a new story. Or maybe you can just check out this page more often for more on him :D.

The week started off on Monday with our third phase test. We had our normal school periods taken off the timetable so that we could write both the first and the second paper of the test. And no, the highlight of the exam wasn’t the difficulty of the paper, but it was when CVM thought he caught Sailesh drinking apple juice during the afternoon exam ;).

We started learning Organic Chemistry for the first time this week and “Anti Chemistry Raghav” was actually enjoying something about Chemistry for the first time ;). Garimella’s true talent was also brought out and was clearly visible when he drew the structures for nearly every compound CVM wanted us to draw. And who can forget Pooja? After doing problems from the archives last phase, she drew twenty-six isomers for the compound we had to draw as homework! Lol.

And yeah, by then the class had been hit by a new fad… Chi-Ku-Li-Ba! Don’t ask me to describe it here – its very hard! Ok, I’ll try anyway – It’s a game somewhat similar to Rock-Paper-Scissors. You move your fingers to make some weird shapes and you need to assert it by making a sound that goes with it. When its your turn to play, if your move matches with your opponent’s, then he “loses” one or both his hands depending on how many match. When you can’t use either hand, you’re out. The game continues until everybody but one person’s hand still stands. Lol, it may sound rather weird, but don’t make any judgements by reading this… wait and watch the real thing! I’ll try to get a video out if I can :).

On Friday we were continuing with the Math test analysis. And Hari had his cheering squad with him ;). Everyone’s cheer for Hari made Prasad sir call him to the board to solve the second half of PCM-2. And that fraud bastard solved nearly all the problems after saying he couldn’t do any of them!

Smitha ma’am was our substitute Chemistry teacher on Saturday since CVM couldn’t make it for some reason. And she did something she called “Test Analysis”. I swear my dog could’ve done a better test analysis of that paper! Not only was she bloody slow at solving the problems, but was also rechecking every result at least like five times or something. And then she got pissed off at our impatience and refused to continue. Lol, so we spent the rest of the afternoon playing Chi-Ku-Li-Ba! And we ended the week by tying a rubber band on Sailesh’s hair to make it resemble a ponytail! Lol.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the morning when Karan Sharma came late to Chemistry class (again). He had to say a joke if he wanted to be allowed to go sit in his place. Well, here’s what he said:

A boy was having dinner with his father.
Boy: Dad…
Father: Shhh, its not good to talk when you eat. Tell me what you want later.

After dinner –

Father: Yes, now tell me what you wanted to say.
Boy: Well i actually just wanted to tell you about a cockroach that I saw crawling about your food!

Yeah i know – it sucks! Big time! So much so that he wasn’t allowed to sit down until around forty minutes into the period! And I doubt he’s learnt from it yet.

The week last time around was a lot more serious than what you would expect at XI-F1. Practical exams, preparations for the upcoming phase tests… well, they all kept us busy!

Talking about the practical exams, Krishna was trying to study from his physics record on the morning of the exam when Pooja came into class and started talking in her usual loud voice. Krish, pissed at this, wanted revenge. Lol. So he started reading out the aim of the experiment as loud and Pooja-ish as he possible could ;). And I think Pooja got the message!

Staying with practical exams, Karan Sharma nearly blew up the chemistry laboratory during the chemistry practical exam on Friday! He was trying to do the “Chromyl Chloride Test”, but God knows what he ended up doing! All we saw was a broadly smiling face emerging from beneath all that smoke in his place. Fortunately for him, the reaction showed that he had tested positively for chloride…

There’s wasn’t much else too interesting that happened all week, except for that Saturday was declared a rare holiday by FIITJEE. Unfortunately, because of the phase test, we couldn’t make the most of it – we couldn’t even play our FPL matches! …And oh yeah, Karan wore sandals during PT on Thursday again ;).
