News about the possibility of having a few days off due to the World Tamil Meet was circulating about class at the start of the week. The entire class had their fingers crossed for confirmation. And then finally came the delightful news – Wednesday, Thursday and Friday would be holidays, which were later extended to Saturday and Sunday as well!

Meanwhile, in the short week that did last, MJ was asking the class about their fondest childhood memories. That was when Sailesh shared with the rest of the class his memory of peeing into his brother’s mouth when he was being held upside down! Lol, if the peeing part sounds unbelievable, then at least the lifting-him-up part does ;).

Chemistry period on Tuesday was a very restless one. We could hardly wait for the start of our mini-vacation. So much so that we started drawing pictures at the back of our Chemistry notebook when we were supposed to be solving problems. No one was quite Picasso, but we weren’t terrible to be honest. The sound of the bell that followed was music to our ears. That was the end of our two-day week.

Well, the Mid Phase is next Saturday. All the best for that, everyone. And bon voyage to those going for the excursion!

In sharp contrast to the start of the previous week, this one started off with a hot, sweaty Monday. Incredibly enough, the air conditioner wasn’t working!

And if the hot weather wasn’t bad enough a combination to go with FIITJEE, then their new policy of conducting a test everyday certainly was. Every single day! Physics, Chemistry, Math, subjective, objective… they’ve thought of every combination possible. The worst part is, the tests are held after school hours – from 3.30 to 4.30.

On Wednesday, CUM reckoned that the one hour we’re required to stay back after school wasn’t enough. She felt that we needed one more hour of school. At least it seemed that way when she walked into class at 8.00 in the morning to teach us Boolean algebra. Thankfully, the school chose that very day to call us for the morning assembly where the new prefectural body was sworn in. The swearing-in took long enough to eat into the actual Computer Science period which was supposed to be at nine o’clock.

Ever wondered how you could avoid getting bored when MP asks you to take out your NCERT book and start solving problems? Well, one way is to listen to Sailesh sing. The back benchers were treated to Shakira’s Sailesh’s latest number ‘Waka Waka’. Maybe its time Sailesh went on stage and became the latest on-screen sensation :).

Saturday, unusually, was more crowded than it generally. And less boring as well. That’s cause Amudha, for some reason decided to have school for the mainstream school as well. We were to follow Wednesday’s timetable, which meant there were only four FIITJEE periods. That was when MP handed out a sheet containing over 450 problems in integration… and he’s expecting us to get it done in the “weekend”!

Sunday wasn’t about to be spared either. We had our ‘Potential Discovery Test’ today, which made it 14 days of school without a break (for those who wrote the test last Sunday). So by the time the next week is done, we would’ve attended 20 consecutive days of school, making a rather wild assumption that there’s not going to be anything occupying us next Sunday.

A lovely breeze accompanied the falling droplets as we made our way to class for the new week. Ironically, the air conditioner began to work reliably just when it was least needed. Things got even better when details of the excursion were revealed. The modified dates for the Ooty trip was around about the 5th of July.

FIITJEE, however, lived up to their reputation of playing spoil sport. They declared that class would happen even during the excursion for students who weren’t going. Not only that, but there would be class for students who weren’t participating in the sports day events, which were to take place on Thursday. And if that wasn’t bad enough, they stuck a test schedule on the wall which tells us that we have a test nearly everyday (it’s under the “Timetable” link on the homepage), which is serious torture!

On Wednesday, CVM brought his toys to school. Smitha’s toys, rather. The collection had balls and sticks… and holes ;). You were supposed to insert the sticks into the holes to join together different balls to get a cooler looking toy. Okay, fine, they were actually supposed to represent atoms that are bonded together by single, double or triple bonds to form larger molecules. CVM’s main idea, though, was to show us how molecules were arranged in solids and where the tetrahedral and octahedral voids actually were.

Thursday. Time for sports day. It was pretty good weather to run around the ground. But it wasn’t any less tiring. And we did a decent job actually, considering that everybody thinks that FIITJEE students can’t do anything but study. Shivam and Prithvi got the farthest, reaching the finals of 100 metres and high jump respectively. Prithvi, unfortunately, couldn’t win a medal, while Shivam is gearing up for the finals at Nehru stadium later this year.

The World Cup fever caught on with everyone by Friday and we decided to get the whole class involved in it. 32 five buck lottery tickets, that each had a team name on it were picked by 32 of us (including PSOM). The person who has the ticket of the World Cup winning team gets a 100 bucks while the person who has the worst performing team gets 60 bucks! Sarav and Shivam are the strongest contenders for the 100 after they picked Spain and Brazil respectively, while PSOM should be pretty content with his New Zealand ticket :).

Correction: Prithvi did win a medal after all. It was a bronze for high jump. Congratulations, Prithvi. Sorry for not mentioning it earlier.

School reopened this week for us unfortunate FIITJEE students who had to get back to their books after an incredibly brief vacation. And it was obvious that no one wanted to. So much so that MP actually started going around class asking everyone why they seemed so dull!

Sailesh was back in a new attire – with one of his ears plugged with cotton. There was inflammation in his ear and he was treating it with some medicine. When he was explaining his situation to MP, his “inflammation” went across as “information”. MP actually asked him whether he was using cotton because he had information in his ear! And have you ever thought about what the medicine that spills out of the cotton looks like? It looks like ear wax to us. Sailesh reckons it looks like caramel! Hearing Sailesh say that made Sarav barf and wonder if he was ever going to eat caramel again.

Chettinad Vidyashram official opened for senior students on Wednesday. For them it was a place they hadn’t been to in ages, a place they hadn’t seen with a new block, with more FIITJEE students, with security cameras… Well, we finally had MJ and CUM back, so school became something that we could actually start looking forward to. And Wednesday afternoon certainly made us feel that way. CVM didn’t take class during the first two periods after lunch because it was too hot! If that wasn’t good enough, we had to get our ID card photos taken during the next period, so were to skip that class as well. And we being the way we are, we deliberately took our own time in getting our photos taken and leaving the place, which meant that the last period was ours as well!

The cycle tests began on Thursday. It started with Physics, which we were to write for 30 minutes lesser than the mainstream students. And Girish’s phone started ringing during the exam, but with the invigilator being CUM, there was never really any problem.

On Friday, CVM brought some 3D slide shows of molecular arrangement in solids on his laptop. While showing it to some of the students, the others were chatting away. And it pissed him off big time! He started yelling about him having lost his self-respect in the class. In his exact words, he said “For your information, I’m an M.Phil. graduate and a gold medalist in UG and I deserve respect!” He slammed his laptop shut and stormed out of the class. But with CVM, something always has to happen when he’s angry, and it wasn’t any different this time. His chair fell down as he was getting up and he nearly tripped over it!

While all this was happening through the week, the poor electrician came twice to repair our air conditioner. Both times, it worked for five minutes. I know, with our class, five minutes is a lot, but it doesn’t do much with the summer around. It sparked and died again, and we ended the week leaving the class in its normal state.
